Commissioning and Maintenance of 0.1 MLD Capacity Brackish Water RO Plant at Khardoi of BSF, Kutch-Bhuj

A CSR initiative of Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board

Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board (GWSSB) has sponsored a project entitled “Commissioning and Maintenance of 0.1 MLD Capacity Brackish Water RO Plant (one nos.) for 8000-12000 TDS Feed Water at Khardoi Post of BSF, Kutch-Bhuj”. CSIR-CSCMRI aims to ensure RO plants for smooth and uninterrupted functioning of plants to provide safe drinking water for Border Security forces. Timely repair, maintenance, and replacement of consumables will not only enhance the performance of existing plants but will consistently deliver safe and potable drinking water to our Jawans over a period of time. Our objective is to reduce capital and operating cost and ensure consistency in quality irrespective of variations in feed using indigenous RO membrane technology.

The 0.1 MLD capacity RO Plant was installed at Khardoi Post of BSF at Bhuj district of Gujarat and operated successfully, indigenous Brackish water RO technologies was established in actual field conditions. The potable water as per WHO standards was delivered to the BSF Jawans. The desired results as stated in the project proposal were achieved as the Brackish water of TDS ranging from 10,000 ppm – 12,000 ppm was passed through the RO desalination system and product(potable)water of desired TDS (less than 500 ppm) as per set standard with recovery of more than 50% was was achieved. The plant works well and easy to operate and maintain the plant. Two Jawans were trained for operation and maintenance of the plant. The results of the plant were analyzed critically and were found to be as satisfactory. The plant was handed over to Authorities for the continuous operation and maintenance.

This is an appreciable effort from GWSSB that supports the Jawans, helping them in getting good quality drinking water. CSIR-CSMCRI thanks office bearers of GWSSB for providing CSIR-CSMCRI the opportunity to serve the nation and for their social responsibility and concern in society towards nation building. We also thank and appreciate CSIR-CSMCRI MSST team for their tireless effort in organizing and successful completion of the project.
